Today was the last day to file my tax returns for 2007, and hence i woke up at bit early (around noon) had a quick shower and then rushed for the bank. The bank is located in business district of Makati and is about 3 kms from my house, the traffic is always bad in Makati and hence instead of taking my car i decided to ride a cab. After paying the taxes, i decided to walk on my way back. Walking helps me to relax and reflect.
As i was walking i saw the usual scene, cars speeding by, bus drivers racing with eachother, people on breaks smoking near the office building entrance, people sipping coffee at starbucks, tea and coffee house and other famous coffee outlets... what got me thinking was that instead of walking i could have easily taken a cab and would have reached home comfortably, or i could have been sitting in starbucks sipping their signature hot chocolate (that’s what i generally drink), however instead of doing any of these things here i was walking quietly down the street.... while walking i remembered my office days in 2000, i had just got out of college, and was doing internship in Alok industries. In those days, engineers were not paid that well, especially if one was a fresher with no contacts or god father support. During these days i would walk all the, walk from home to borivli station (10 mins) and ride a jam packed train from borivli to mahalakshimi and then walk till office (15 mins), during these days i dint have any other option, but to walk. At time i really hated walking and wanted to buy a car, even if that meant that i would have to work double shifts or work on holidays. I was willing to do these things just to buy a car, and today when i have a car, i want to walk... its so funny. When we dont have something we crave for it, we do crazy things just to get it, we push our limits and even ignore family and our personal health to achieve that SOMETHING, and once we get it, we at times realize some real crazy things behind out goal…. Hence I think they say, to be careful and make right choices and demands in life.
It is good to have an end to journey towards; but it is the journey that matters in the end.
